Police in Sweden have launched a coordinated crackdown on a pirate network, responsible for the unlicensed distribution of ViaSat, Canal Digital and Com Hem.

The operation, carried out with the Nationella Operativa Avdelning (National Operations Department) last Wednesday, resulted in the detention of several people.

Under Swedish law the administration of a pirate TV network can result in up to two years imprisonment and substantial damages.

Since August 2014 under Swedish law it has been illegal to be a customer of a pirate TV network.

Sweden was the original home to The Pirate Bay, the bit torrent search engine.
