    Std def reception versus Hi def reception

    Dear Sat and PC Guy,
    I'm considering getting a hjgh definition Freesat box, but my question is;
    all the blurb says hd is 5 times better picture quality; does this mean the signal is 5 times as hard for the box to get a signal from?
    In other words, bbc2 breaks up around 6 in the evening currently using std def, if I go to hi def will I have no chance at all of seeing a picture!

    Thanks for all your help in the past, this site is excellent for answering questions like this without making one feel inferior!( Like some sites I could mention)
    Please keep up the good work.
    I'm here in Fuerteventura, but your sites' questions and replies have helped me a lot.
    Thanks again,
    Basher

    Re: Std def reception versus Hi def reception

    hmmm

    Well BBC HD is on the same frequency as BBC Channel Islands....
    And whilst C4 is on an weak astra 2d frequency, C4HD is is on a much stronger frequency and can be received pretty much 24/7 (note C4HD is not yet on freesat!)

    So the answer is no. it all depends on what satellite freqencey the operated put their channels on...

    Cheers for the comments...glad you like the site...
