    LNB for dishes

Is it possible to fix an LNB to a telmicro dish (80cm) and use this with a new receiver box to receive any english tv. If so what LNB would you recommend, where to get one, what receiver box and what channels could be received from what satellite. Thanks

just one or two questions then....

to be abvle to receive and satellite tv channels, you will need:
a satellite dish - 80cm is the smallest required for most satellites - a 1.8 is minimum for bbc,itv etc (location depending)

an LNB - you get single output lnbs (for one receiver) or twin output LNBs (for two receivers or a PVR like Sky+). there are off set LNBs for offset dishes, and prime focus LNBs for Prime focus dishes - most 1.8 and 2.4 dishes are prime focus, the majotirty of 80cm dishes are offset ...invacoms are generally regarded to be the best performing LNBs - especially for prime focus dishes. for an 80cm dish ang universal lnb will do (sharp or maxim)

cable - to connect the LNB to the receiver.

    a receiver
you have a Freesat branded receivers - they only have about 100 channels on their EPG at the moment. Freesat receivers will have the Freesat logo on them

you have a sky receivers and a 20 freesatfromsky card, use the second link - many more channels than Freesat, and Five, Five US and Fiver, Sky Three, Setanta Sports News - over 200 plus channel.

If you have a sky receivers and want to pay monthly use the third link...

Note that many installers are using generic receivers (sometimes called Free To Air receivers) and calling them freesat receivers which may be confusing people. official freesat and sky receivers have a full 7 day programme guide...generic FTA receivers only have now and next programme infomation. Generic FTA receivers will get all channels in the second link - apart from Five, Five US and Fiver, Sky Three, Setanta Sports News.

there are many many satellites in the skies, offering lots and lots of free channels

    Re: LNB for dishes

Having read your informative postings elsewher I now understand most of what you say. Cutting it to one question only. The telmicro dish (waited 3 years before having anything installed and went for them this may as all my neighbours had them- how I regret it now - should have waited 3 more months and read your postings) is solid but I suspect no Lnb therefore can I fit an Lnb to it to make it work as a satellite dish receiver if I do all the other stuff you kindly answered.thanks in anticipation

most rebroadcaster, like TM, use two sorts of aerials to get their signals....one is a little box about 10 cm by 10cm, the other is a mesh aerial = see attachment (the latter was described by someone as "looks like it should be used on a deep fat fryer!")

these are totally incompatiable with satellite signals and satellite LNBs.
