    Alternative to Big Dish

Hi I wonder if anybody can help.

Our urbanisation has now rejected the idea of a big dish so we are left to go it alone. I want to receive BBC1 & ITV and don't care about Sky or any subscription channels, other than re-broadcasting what can I now do?

Is there any satellite system where I can receive both BBC1 and ITV on a smaller dish, I know some bars down here on the southern Costa receive a transmission from I think its a North African transmitter and they get BBC1 & ITV.

Is there any solution or do we just have to give up! anybody please?

    Re: Alternative to Big Dish

BBC and ITV are only available on a big dish (1.4 extreme minimum, 1.8 better, 2.4 best)
these signals are direct from the Astra 2 and Eurobord satellites.

If you receive bbc and itv on a dish smaller than those mentioned above they are rebroadcasting.
if you receive bbc and itv on any other satellites other than Astra 2D they are rebroadcasting.
if you receive bbc and itv by paying a monthly subscription they are rebroadcasting.

you can try one of the "online streaming sites", or a services like http://www.vpnuk.info/
obviously you will never beat the quality of picture and sound of a TV from the main satellites.

    Re: Alternative to Big Dish

Thanks for your prompt answer, it looks like we are gonna have to bit the bullet and go with re-broadcasting and hope for the best. We have no chance of getting a 2.4 metre dish and even if we had we have nowhere to put it anyway.

I am still amazed that we are now in the 21 century and this must be the only country in the world that cannot get the BBC unless you have a dish the size of Jodrell Bank. how do they managed in deepest China and Afghanistan.

Once again thanks for your help it is much appreciated.

i am sure that they would be rebroadcasting, or even available on the local systems who pay for these services. and the armed forces have their own broadcaating srvice BFBS.

you must understand that it has nothing to do with technology, but the broadcast contracts, which state where the programmes can be broadcast.
in greece you need much bigger dishes 4 meters in some cases...
and the scandiavian channels also require a big dish to receive them in Spain - and those channels are not free like UK channels, but only but using a viewing card.
