Sky Viewing Cards – This is the wrong card for this set top box

Some people have been experiencing an on screen message on the television screen informing them that “This is the wrong card for this set top box” on their Sky digibox with the new white Sky card.

There are two reasons for this on screen message.

“This is the wrong card for this set top box” message on Sky Sports and Sky Movie channels.

The “Wrong card for this set top box” message will be displayed if you are using your Sky Subscription card in another sky digibox, and trying to watch the Sky premium channels, like Sky Sports or Sky Movies.

Sky’s premium channels, Sky Sports, Sky Movies and Sky HD, are only available when the correct card is being used in the correct “paired” Sky Digibox.

To watch the channels insert the Sky card into the correct Sky digibox.
Or contact Sky top get your card paired to the Sky digibox.
Or if you are using Sky HD or Sky+HD digibox, you can pair up using your “My Sky” account, or by following the on screen prompts on the digibox (assuming your Sky HD or Sky+HD digibox is connected to your home internet network, and is using a UK IP address).

“This is the wrong card for this set top box” message on ALL Sky channels.

The second reasons for seeing the “wrong card for this set top box” error message is that this means that the new white sky viewing card is in hibernation, after not getting the “keep alive” signal from the satellite.

This “keep alive” signal is being sent to the Sky card pretty much constantly. Should the sky card not receive this “keep alive” signal for a few weeks (for example if the Sky card is removed from the Sky receiver, or there has been a power cut and the Sky box has not reset itself), then the Sky card can go to sleep / hibernation.

Where as the old yellow house Sky cards displayed the “To subscribe to this channel call ….” on all scrambled channels if they were hibernating, the new white sky viewing cards display “This is the wrong card for this set top box”, irrespective of whether the card be in the right box or not.

As before, leaving in a sky box that is turned on and receiving channels should wake them up over the next 24 hours. It can, however, sometimes take longer.
