There are reports that some Internet Service Providers (ISP) are starting to issue Copyright Infringement Notices to Kodi Users

The reports say that some Kodi users who use Kodi to stream content have received copyright infringement notifications from the contents rights holders. One user had been streaming the latest Mad Max Fury Road movie, and received a copyright infringement notifications referring to the time he was streaming the movie on Kodi.

Officers from a UK-based Regional Organized Crime Unit (ROCU), the Government Agency Intelligence Network (GAIN) and the Federation Against Copyright Theft have carried out more raids in pursuit of ‘pirate’ Android TV boxes. More than a thousand devices were seized in two locations this morning and at least two people have been arrested.

After a joint investigation by the Metropolitan Police and the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) into the sales of set-top boxes programmed to provide access to movies, TV shows, live sports and subscription channels without permission, officers raided locations in the south and Midlands areas of the country.

Trading standards officers and police are carrying out a crackdown across England, Wales and Northern Ireland against those who offer pirate and counterfeit products via Facebook.

Interestingly, ‘pirate’ Android boxes have been targeted again, for streaming content illegally.

Facebook accounts are more and more being used as a way to distribute pirated content..

Operated by the National Trading Standards eCrime Team alongside the National Markets Group (with members the BPI, Federation against Copyright Theft and the Alliance for Intellectual Property Theft) Operation Jasper is manned by officers from police and government agencies and is reportedly the largest operation of its type. It is targeted at “criminals” who exploit social media to commit “copyright theft” and sell “dangerous and counterfeit” goods.
