Top Gear Return Date

The 24th series of Top Gear, will launch on Sunday, March 5 at 8pm on BBC Two.

BBC Two has also released a brand new photo of the main hosts.

This will be the first series without former host Chris Evans, with the new series seeing Rory Reid and Chris Harris elevated as co-hosts alongside Matt LeBlanc.

Chris Evans has revealed the Top Gear return date.

Top Gears new presenter revealed that the motoring show will be racing back onto our screens on May 5, 2016.

Evans revealed the news during an interview with James Martin on Saturday Kitchen (November 28).

The return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in BBC1’s Sherlock was the most popular programme on the BBC’s iPlayer in 2014, pipping Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear to the top in a record year for on-demand viewing.

In all there were a record 3.5bn requests for TV and radio programmes on the iPlayer – 2.6bn for TV content and 860m for radio output – up from a total of 3.1 bn in 2013.

BBC Top Gear tops Christmas Iplayer Downloads

Top Gear toppled Doctor Who from the top of the BBC’s iPlayer Christmas charts as on-demand viewing continued to boom, up 25% year on year.

There were more than 2m requests to view the first part of Top Gear’s controversial Patagonia special, broadcast on BBC2 on 27 December.

There were another 1.5m requests for the second half of the Top Gear special on iPlayer which aired on BBC2 a day later.

Doctor Who, which topped the festive iPlayer charts for the last two years, slipped to ninth spot with 1m requests during a nine-day period over Christmas, according to figures published by the BBC on Wednesday. It echoed the drop in the TV audience for the Doctor Who Christmas special, which fell to 8.3 million from 11.1 million viewers in 2013, the biggest drop of any of the most popular Christmas Day shows.

Top Gear will return for its 19th series at the end of January, it has been confirmed.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will be back for another run of the factual entertainment series on Sunday, January 27 at 9pm on BBC Two

The show will open with a long-awaited Christmas special. Series 19 will follow immediately afterwards.

Features expected in the new series include a road trip across the US in the new SRT Viper, a Lexus LFA and an Aston Martin Vanquish, a race from Wembley to Milan to watch a football match, and James May rallying in a Bentley Continental GT, driven by ex-Mini WRC driver Kris Meeke.

There will also apparently be an Africa special where Clarkson, Hammond and May buy a station wagon and have to drive to the source of the Nile.
