Three convicted of pirating pay channels for broadcast on local cable TV
The Criminal Court of Santander has sentenced three people after they provided pay-TV channels for disctribution to clients on a local cable TV.
The ruling sets fines and five months in prison for each of the defendants, RF Monica, Michelangelo and Ana Isabel for an offense against intellectual property.
However, the Court has agreed to replace the prison sentence for fines. Each will have to pay 1710 euros penalty.
Also, the three must compensate a total of 10,000 euros to Sogecable, the pay TV channel operator.
The facts admitted by the defendants, who agreed a deal with prosecutors, took place in 2007.
For three months this network distributed programming from Dagital+ channels Canal Plus Cinema, 40 Latino, Hunting and Fishing and Paramount Comedy to customers via the local cable network.
They did not have the corresponding contracts with the companies to supply such content.
