BT Sports channels – will be available on Sky TV and they get live MotoGP rights from the BBC
BT has revealed that the three BT Sport channels it is launching shortly will be free for all BT broadband customers.
They will cost £ 12 per month for Sky customers.
The three BT channels will be BT Sports 1, BT Sports 2 and ESPN.
BT Sport has won the TV rights for MotoGP from 2014 in a five-year deal, after a decade of coverage on the BBC. BBC coverage for the remainder of this season will be unaffected, with all races and some qualifying sessions available on BBC One and BBC Two.
BT Sport has signed a five-year carriage deal with MotoGP, starting 2014, in addition to the wide range of Premier League football games, Aviva Premiership rugby, women’s tennis, European football and UFC action that has already been announced for the channels. Some women’s tennis, currently on Eurosport, will also now only be available on BT Sports channels.
MotoGP is available for free on Spanish TV.
How much does BT Sports cost?
BT aims to boost its broadband customer base by offering BT Sport free to anyone who is a broadband subscriber.
Those who are not subscribers must pay £15-a-month for HD, or £12 for standard definition. The £3 monthly fee for HD will be waived for a year if you sign up before August 1.
This is higher than the £10 the Sky Sports subscribers can currently pay for ESPN, which has the 38 match package this season. ESPN bought without Sky Sports is £13.
So those who switch broadband to BT will be paying at least £25.45 each month, but will get access to the sport channels.
What talent has BT got on board?
In terms of football, Sky wins huge praise for its intelligent and entertaining presenting team that includes Jeff Stelling, Martin Tyler, Gary Neville and Alan Smith, while it has recently signed up soon-to-retire Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
BT has made a good move in poaching former BBC Formula One presenter Jake Humphrey to front its football coverage and respected Ian Darke as the lead commentator.
But the rest of its team is less proven. It includes Rio Ferdinand, Steve McManaman, David James, Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen.
Its rugby team meanwhile has former England internationals Matt Dawson, Ben Kay, Austin Healey and Martin Bayfield
