BBC Glastonbury coverage annouced
The BBC is to show 25 hours of TV coverage from this year’s Glastonbury music festival across BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four. 60 hours of coverage will be broadcast on the BBC’s national radio networks.
The One Show kicks off the BBC TV coverage of the festival with a 30-minute show fronted by Alex Jones and Greg James. They’ll be joined by a number of special guests on the famous sofa.
BBC Two will once again be the home of the Pyramid Stage headliners across the weekend of 24-26th June, with Muse, Adele and Coldplay’s sets being broadcast in their entirety along with that of the Sunday teatime legend, Jeff Lynne’s ELO. The channel will also show highlights from the artists playing on a variety of stages on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and late night on Saturday and Sunday.
BBC Four will also feature a variety of whole sets across the weekend, including the likes of Foals, New Order, PJ Harvey and Earth Wind & Fire, along with extended highlights from a variety of other acts.
The BBC Red Button service is once again being expanded this month, enabling additional coverage from Worthy Farm in addition to extra sports coverage.
Overall, there’s less coverage on traditional TV services thanks to the loss of BBC Three’s coverage, which used to provide non-stop coverage from 7pm every evening.
Coverage across the BBC’s TV channels will be fronted by Jo Whiley, Lauren Laverne, Mark Radcliffe, Gemma Cairney, Clara Amfo, Huw Stephens and Martin Dougan.
On radio, coverage is to be spread across BBC Radio 1, Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 4. Live coverage includes headline sets by Coldplay and Adele to the Sunday legends set by Jeff Lynne’s ELO on Radio 2, sets from PJ Harvey, Beck, Muse and Underworld on 6 Music and a live Essential Mix from Annie Mac, Four Tet and Julio Bashmore on Radio 1.
Via online platforms, including connected / smart TVs, BBC Glastonbury’s digital offer will have live streams of six stages, all in HD and available to watch on the BBC Glastonbury website across the weekend. There will be around 120 performances available on demand at bbc.co.uk/glastonbury and BBC iPlayer, with high-quality pictures from the Pyramid, Other, West Holts, Park, John Peel, and BBC Introducing stages as well as roaming photography from around the festival.
