BBC World News SD on Astra 19.2 closes
The BBC has now ceased broadcasting a standard definition version of its World News channel via Astra 19.2°E.
As first announced at the end of June, the BBC has decided to end its dual transmission of both standard and high definition versions of BBC World News via the Astra 1 satellite cluster.
The HD version of the commercially funded channel, launched in Europe in April 2015, now remains the default way of accessing the channel via Astra 1 following the removal of the SD feed over the weekend.
The Astra 1 satellite cluster is one of the main source of satellite TV reception across a number of European countries, through which many hotels and resorts provide access to the BBC’s international news service.
HD satellite receivers can access BBC World News HD via the following parameters:
Satellite: Astra 1 KR (19.2E)
Frequency: 11229
Polarisation: Vertical
Symbol Rate: 22000
FEC: 2/3
Mode: DVB-S2, 8PSK
Service ID: 5001 (BBC World News HD)
BBC World News SD continues as scheduled on Eutelsat Hot Bird (13°E), becoming the main SD free-to-air feed for Europe. IPTV and cable distributors of the channel who relayed the Astra 19.2 SD feed were advised to switch to the Hot Bird feed by the beginning of September if they wanted to continue offering the channel in standard definition.
The SD feed is available using the following parameters:
Satellite: Eutelsat Hot Bird (13 E)
Frequency: 12596
Polarisation: Vertical
Symbol Rate: 27500
FEC: 3/4
Mode: DVB-S, QPSK
Service ID: 8204
