IPTV Buffering and Freezing – try these tips

Do you have an IPTV sytems?
Do you suffer from buffering issues?
Do you suffer from very slow channel loading?
Do you suffer from slow response when you swap or try to “channel zap”?

Yes, IPTV buffering is annoying, but it can be down to a number of things.

What is buffering?

The IPTV stream is not sent directly to your device. Instead, it is sent in smaller ‘packets’ (which is why if you disconnect your device from the internet, the stream will continue for a few seconds). Any delay in receiving these packets and your device will pause as it waits for the next data packet. This is buffering.

So how you you fix these IPTV buffering issues? Some you can try yourself, and some you cannot do, as it is out of your control.

1. Using multiple devices
Having multiple devices on your internet network can slow the network down and increase loading time. Things like computers, internet radios, game consoles, mobile phones, and tablets, all being used on the same network will slow down your streams.

2. Rebooting your router and IPTV device
Sometimes rebooting your router, and then your IPTV device will help solve the buffering issue. Sometime the link between the two can become unsynchronized, and the reboot will resynchronize them.

3. You are on a “wireless internet system provider” WISP (also , but incorrectly, called “wifi internet”)
These wireless systems are great if you cannot get a main adsl, fiber, cable or 4g service. Small “wifi” dish, and cheaper. But they do tend to suffer speed and connection issues, especially at peak times, and fiesta and summertime, as more people use them. There is not a lot you can do about this, apart from complain, or move to another provider.
Some WISPs offer 10Megabits per second, but often this drops much lower.
Generally ADSL suppliers offer “the fastest possible”, which is usually upto 20 Megabits per second
Fiber suppliers should offer anything from 50 to 600 Megabits per second.

4. Minimum internet speeds for IPTV
IPTV requires a good, decent stable internet connection. These are recommended download speeds for IPTV content:
Recommended connection speed for SD quality content: 4.0 Megabits per second
Recommended connection speed for HD quality content: 6.0 Megabits per second
Recommended connection speed for Ultra HD quality content: 25 Megabits per second

5. Increase the buffer on your device.
On many IPTV devices you can increase the on-board buffer. This allows your device to increase the amount of data it downloads, meaning it has more data to play with when waiting for the next batch of data. On most Infomir MAG IPTV boxes, the buffer settings can be found in the system settings.

6. Use SD channels, rather than HD channels.
The SD channel will use less data than HD channels. So if you have a slow internet connection, the SD channels will run better than the HD channels.

7. ISP Rerouting
It is known than ISP (internet service providers), do at time when their servers or service in one area, reroute data and traffic through less busy servers. The downside of this there is an increase in delay as that data is sent elsewhere.

8. Speed tests
You can run an online speed test to check your Internet speeds, to check your speeds and see if your ISP is “throttling” your connection. However, it has been reported that ISPs can see when you are running a speed test, and they temporarily remove any throttling they have implemented, giving a false reading.

9. Connection to your router
Connecting your device to your router via ethernet cable tends to be a lot more stable and faster than connecting via Wifi. If the router is in a different location, making a direct ethernet cable tricky, then “powerline” plugs, that send the internet to different location via your electrical lines, are available.

10. Move to a direct from broadcaster satellite system!

    Could you give us an idea of installation costs for internet TV. At the moment we have a 2.1 satellite dish through a free sat box. We used to have a phone line and have been told that we can get can get fibre optic. We would like this in the 3 rooms downstairs and 1 room upstairs. We would like to remove the dish. Also what are the monthly costs and would that be when we are not here in Spain.
