British Tv Club closed down by the anti-piracy authorities
British TV Club, that provided UK TV channels to subscribers, appears to have been closed down by the anti-piracy authorities.
British TV Club was popular with British expats as it provided access to UK TV channels via the internet for a subscription without the need of a VPN to get around geoblocking that is employed by the official UK TV broadcasters.
British TV Club webpage has the following banner :
Showing that the British TV Club service has been closed, and the webpage taken over by antipiracy group “alliance4creativity”.
A user of British TV Club posted this on Trustpilot on the 2nd May 2024 :
Shut down with no notice, unable to contact anyone or get refund
This was a working and reliable TV service, that is, up until recently when I can’t access it at all. When I try to go to their website, all it says is “Maintenance mode” and then another message saying “The British TV Club has closed down for legal reasons.”
This happened completely out of the blue, out of nowhere, with no further explanation. Could it have been shut down permanently, or is it just a temporary shut down (as implied by being in so-called “maintenance mode”)? Who’s to know. They should be a little bit more clearer about that.
At the end of the day, I am unable to claim a refund, I am unable to contact the owner of the service, I am essentially unable to do anything at all. I’ve basically just been locked out with no chance of getting my money back.
When it works, it works. Reliably too. But unfortunately it just seems as though they have taken my money and ran. That is not okay.
This comes when another internet based UK TV service Teeveeing has been experiencing legal issues, despite claiming to be “fully legal”, with many customers left without UK TV and losing money paid.
I notice above someone said British TV Club was shut down with no notice. I was a member of this club and can honestly say. We members were kept constantly informed. What is more to all of us the gentleman who ran British TV Club treated us extremely well transferring our memberships to another company. He was and is in my book a star. He was honest gave reliable service . If he ever starts up again I will be firt on his list to join.
I too was a member but was very disappointed in how the owner behaved at the end. The week before he sent out a notice claiming legal issues and would be closing down – I had paid a year in advance renewal subscription for the following month. He did not offer a refund. He offered a VPN service which I didn’t need as already have one. He then switched us over to an illegal alternative site with our personal data withno consultation. The alternative site turned out to be anonymous with no customer support and claims to be unsustainable as the main tech guy left. The original help forums of British TV Club were transferred to a new private website again using our private data however no one was allowed to ask for help or mention the illegal alternative site that now has ownership of our data. I originally signed up to Rob’s TV satalite as it was brilliant and never realised when he died it was taken over by an absolute cowboy with no professional standards. What a circus.
Hi, I was also a member of the British TV club and totally agree with Lesley. We were all kept up to date with what was going on and the owner was always a available to answer any of our questions . He gave us all lots of time to look around for another subscriber and even made suggestions. Should he ever decide to reopen I will definitely be one of the first to subscribe again. Should he ever read this, I wish him and his sister all the best.
We were members and the Guy in question gave us a great service for many years and I thank him for that. The pennies we lost when he was forced to shutdown are nothing compared to his personal loss. I hope he is ok and has managed to sort out another form of income. Good luck to him and thanks for the great service he gave.
