A sub 250g drone can be flown in Spain, but requires certain paperwork, authorisations, and rules to follow: (as at May 2025)

– due to the drone having a camera I have registered and have an Operator ID required via Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Aérea). Operator ID must be shown on the drone and controller.
– I have completed the A1/A3 test for advanced flying (not really needed for sub 250g drones, but nice if you do)
– I have public liability insurance, although not needed for sub 250g drones
– with A1/A3 flights over people are allowed, but flights over crowds are not.
– this flight was over public land, so no “landowner” permission required. Permission is needed to fly over private land / property / places of residence.
– the ENAIRE Drones app was checked to ensure no other restrictions (eg special nature zones, airports, infrastructure etc) were in the area of flight.
– camera footage can be taken and posted online, as long as individuals privacy is respected (ie persons are not identifiable, or not the focus of attention)
– For all drone flights in “urban” areas, as per ENAIRE Drones app, five days notice prior to the flight MUST be given to the Ministry of the Interior. (This five days notice is even needed if flying outside on your own property!)
