Freesat 4K TV boxes have started to receive a new software update, released on the 5th May 2026. The update applies to both the Freesat 4K TV Box and the Freesat Recordable 4K TV Box.

As with previous Freesat updates, the software should automatically download and install onto compatible boxes during the normal overnight housekeeping process, meaning most users will not need to do anything manually.

But if you want to update your Freesat 4k Set Top box manually, then you can do so using the instructions in this video.

At the moment, Freesat have provided very little information about exactly what changes are included in this latest firmware release. The official support page simply lists the update as “Software update 5th May 2026” without going into much technical detail.

A new software update v1.7.1 will be rolling out to Freesat 4K TV Boxes from Tuesday 5 May 2026.

This update includes several fixes and enhancements designed to improve your viewing experience.

So far, this appears to be more of a maintenance and stability update rather than a major feature release. Users may notice small improvements to performance, reliability, or general system responsiveness after the update has been installed.

If your Freesat 4K TV Box has not yet updated automatically, you can try forcing a manual software update through the box settings menu.

Previous Freesat updates have included improvements to guide loading speed, interface tweaks, startup message changes, and general maintenance fixes, so it is possible this latest update continues that trend.

Freesat continue to maintain and support their range of 4K satellite TV boxes with regular software updates and maintenance fixes. The update also comes as Freesat expand their hardware lineup with the newer Manhattan-made Freesat recording box, offering users another modern option for subscription-free satellite TV reception and recording in the UK.
