Hi Jon
I'm on my usual quest for extended Freesat viewing hours of BBC2 etc etc. Can you tell us if, at any later date, it's expected that more channels (including the one's that "Pix out" after 6 or 7 in the evening) will be moving over to HD ??
If they do, will this mean that the signal quality will improve and therefore offer us all extended viewing hours of BBC 2 etc etc ?? (We live in hope !!)

the answer is...WHO KNOWS!

bbc HD has just increasesd its hours and is not transmitting 9 hours aday...the maximin the BBC Trust will allow it to do so.

it may be awhile before any bbc channels go 24/7 broadcasting...especially when BBC HD already show a mix of bbc1 2,3, and 4 programmes in HD.

also, with one HD channel they do not have to show any regional output, but if they do have BBC HD channels for all bbc regions and channels then these alone will take up half of astar 2d's frequencies - bbc2 have a few regions (like wales, english, NI and scotland)

and if / when they do their reception will depend on which frequencies they use - a vertical one like the current bbc hd channel, or a horizontal frequency like bbc uses.

mind you , there is a nice spot around the south of valenica, i was getting bbc2 on an 1m dish at about 2pm in the afternoon, and someone else around there also gt bbc2 24/7 on his 2.4m dish...just ghoes to show how the signals vary in such a short area.

forgot to mention c4 and five....

according to some people Sky helped fund C4's HD venture, and therefore the C4HD channel is locked into a long contract with sky...and with C4s funding issue I am sure this is benefitial for bothe C4 and Five.

C4 have said about the possibility of doing Film4HD...no idea yet....maybe if / when some HD chanenls strst to apper on Freeview in the uK.

Five have apparently said they are looking into HD...especially whewn so much of their contenct is in HD from the states.

Again, until somehting offical about these channels going HD we wont even start to guess which frequencies they will be going on.

Incidently, ITVHD (their red button services that has about 1 HD programme a day on maily football) - can now aso be received on Sky HD boxes...but only those with the new HD EPG. It is thought that if HD becomes available on freeview, then ITV will consider some for of actual HD channel, and not a hit and miss HD red button service.

Idealkly, if you want HD and have a sky subscription, pay the extra 10 per month with a sky hd box and you can get around 30 HD channels (depending on your basic subscription!)
