    Sky Box keeps needing retuning.

I have a quad LNB with four seperate TVs and sky boxes. My problem is that one of the boxes needs re-tuning every couple of days whilst the other TVs are ok. I have to go through the procedure of 'system set up and changing the frequency'. Its as though the 'save new settings' tab isnt working. Has anyone experienced this or got any suggestions on rectifying this. Thanks in advance, John

    Hi and welcome,

You should only need to go through the procedure of 'system set up and changing the frequency' when the Sky box fails to boot up using frequency 11778 after being disconnected from the power.

There is no reason for you to have to do this every few days if the box is left powered on or in standby, as the box will be tuned to the last watched channel.

Changing the default transponder frequency once the Sky Guide is loaded and you are receiving channels DOES NOTHING!
Changing the default transponder frequency once the Sky Guide is loaded DOES NOT affect individual channel reception (proven by the fact that each frequency only carries a handful of channels)

In fact, it is perfectly normal for a Sky box to revert back to the correct and proper frequency of 11778, as 11778 is the frequency for the full 7 day Sky Guide information.

In fact, it could be said that if this box changes itself to 11778 (which Sky boxes do when they can receive 11778) , then it is receiving 11778 better than the other 3 boxes, and the 3 other boxes are either not working, or ahave a weaker tuner inside them!!!

Sky box is never disconnected from the power source, ie mains. When i switch on i receive the message 'no signal being received'. So i have to disconnect from the power source for 2 minutes then reconnect and leave the red light on the Sky box for 2 minutes before i have to retune to get a signal. I would have thought that the 'save new settings' tab, would have done just that. Is there any way to overcome this retuning problem. Could the system have been set up wrong on this one TV, as i have no problems with the other 3. Thanks John

When you switch the box on from standby what channel is hsowing the "'no signal being received' message?
Does it matter what channel you leave the box on when in standby, do you still get the message?

It sounds more to be a sky box problem (or a LNB port or cable feed problem), rather than a "frequency" problem.
The box should not 'no signal being received' when coming from standby, unless there is a problem with the box (given that other boxes on the same dish are OK.)

By "'save new settings' you are getting the box to save your manually input default transponder frequency. Once the Sky GUide is loaded your manually input default transponder frequency is ignored anyway. So it makes no difference if it is saving it or not after the SKy Guide is loaded.

But like I explained before, "Changing the default transponder frequency once the Sky Guide is loaded and you are receiving channels DOES NOTHING!" and it only used to help boot up the sky box. The box will use whichever of thew 100plus frequencies it needs to for the channel you are watching. ALL 500 plus channels are not on just one frequency. They are spread over the 100 plus frequencies.
