    Need Help Installing Multiswitch

    Hi Folks,

Newbie to the forum, I'm replacing a dying multiswich in our community (6 owners using 13 ports) with a Labgear 16 port multiswitch, when setting up, which channels are best for adjusting attenuation on VH and HH inputs... do I need to adjust VL and/or HL inputs?

IF you need attenuation on one "group" then you will need them on all of them.
But where you are, and on the dish you have, then I would say that you should not really need attenuation.
And normally, no attenuators should be placed on the feeds to the multiswitch, as you need the signal as clear as possible. Generally attenuators go on the feeds to the receivers - some receivers need them, others do not, as it all boils down to the tuners inside the receivers - eg Pace 2600 should not need them, but the pace 430, 440 and 445 will.

And generally the only "group" of channels that require attenuation these days are those on Astra 2A north beam - channels like Sky channel 998, dave ja vu.
Ideally this should be done at around 4-6pm when those signals need it the most.
And with a professional satellite meter that can measure the signals correctly, rather than the signal on a sky box.

Thanks for the clear and concise answer and information, I'm on the mountain near Monti Pego with a 2.4m dish. The performance of our old multiswitch a Terra MRS12 definately improved when we inserted adjustable 0-20dB attenuators onto the VH and HH imputs. Although adjustable attenuators are integral in the new multiswitch, given your advice I won't touch them unless absolutely necessary. Once again, many thanks.
