Smile System showing No Signal after short power cut.

Hi, we have had a very short power cut and now Sky tv is showing the no signal message although it is showing the time and date on the screen. I have tried unpluging etc with no success. Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do? Many thanks in advance!

    Hi,

If you have unplugged the box, and rebooted the box, and it is showing the date and time, then it is getting a signal from the satellite, as the date and time come from the satellite.

However, note that Sky channel 998, the first channel the sky box goes to, is a weak channel in many aras of Spain late afternoon, and even tough the channel list has loaded up, this channel may not be available. So don't get confused that no signals for one channel mean no signals for all other channels.

SO as long as you are seeing the correct date and time, and the info banner at the bottom of the screen is populated with Sky Channel 998 information, then your channels should be there - even though you cannot receive the Sky Channel 998.

Hi, when the info banner does comes up on the screen, yes, it is showing the time and date plus it tells me that it is searching, then after a few seconds the no signal info appears. It does not come up with the Sky Channel 988. We are trying to manually tune but there is no signal quality and it is not locked, is there a default setting that we could try?

If you are getting the correct date and time, then your box is getting a signal from the satellite.
And as it is getting a signal from the satellite it should also be able to download the channel list.
And once that channel list is downloaded, then the channels should be there.

Normally, the Sky box looks and uses frequency 11778 to do its initial download from, as this is the one and only frequency that carries the full 7 day programme guide.
However, if for whatever reason you cannot receive 11778, like your dish is too small, or it is raining, then luckily all other frequencies carry limited, not the full, programme guide information.

So you do a short process to tell the box to download the channel list from another frequency:

If you cannot get the box working using another frequency, then you may have an LNB or receiver issue.
