According the press reports, it has been suggest that Irish pay-TV sports broadcaster Setanta, supposably in financial difficulties and unable to pay come of its money for sports rights contacts, is in talks with BSkyB about a deal whereby Setanta’s channels could be sold via Sky’s digital sports bundles.
This could mean that Setanta Sports channels could be part of a bigger Sky SPorts Package deal - which may mean a small increase in charges to Sky SPorts subscribers.
At the moment Setanta DTH subscribers must deal direct with Setanta.
Setanta is already in discussion with its sports suppliers about reducing some of its financial obligations, not least the Ł159m it is obliged to pay the (English) Premiere soccer league for coverage of games during the three-year period from 2010.
Who knows where this will lead...
