After a long wait, Spain will finally have a new regulator for TV, broadcast eadn other audiovisuals industries.

The State Conseil for Audiovisual Media will act on Spain’s General Law on Audiovisual Communication. Ramón Jaúregui, minister of the Presidency, said: "the government is especially interested in launching this new Conseil over the next few months which will guarantee and protect the citizens' rights and at the same time it will establish some transparency and competition rules in a context of liberalisation of the audiovisual activity".

The government is also preparing a series of drafts to regulate the advertising, sponsorship and promotion in television. In this sense the Association of Communication Users (AUC, in Spanish) considered these drafts "respect the spirit of the Law". In particular the AUC thinks the drafts will be robust enough to control advertisements within the sporting transmissions.
