    Offset Dish....Why Install Upside Down?

    Hi again,

I have noticed that a local re-broadcaster installs their 40-50 cm dishes upside down. Anybody got any ideas why?

    Cheers.

Re: Offset Dish....Why Install Upside Down?

offset dishes are designed so that the LNB is at the correct angle to receive the signals from the satellites in the Sky.

As rebroadcaster transmitters are on the land and not in the sky (no pun intended), the dishes, therefore, have to be installed upside down.

    They do look weird!

Hola again and thanks for the speedy reply.

You have made a good point, but maybe I should elab...elabora..elaborat.....give a bit more info!

Not sure where you are, but here in the Torrevieja and surrounding area more than nine out of ten re-broadcaster type dishes are installed 'right way up'. The Installer usually turns the rear bracket upside down when constructing the dish; this means that they can get the required angle without the dish fouling the sat bracket or pole. When correctly aligned, the bottom of the dish is about 1-2 inches from the support, but is still the right way up, as is the LNB. The dishes my question refer to are mounted upside down with the LNB the right way up, i.e. cable pointing down. I spoke to a customer of this particular re-broadcaster recently and he apparently asked the Engineer why the dish was upside down, and was given the answer that it improves the signal. Thats the reason for my question; could there be anything in this procedure that may or may not be beneficial to an offset 'big dish' Installer.

Re: Offset Dish....Why Install Upside Down?

    Hi

I cannot really see how turning the dish upside down would improve the signal
Maybe it has something to do with the location of the transmitter and the client being too close in proximity...

or that particular rebroadcasters siganl in the Torrevieja area is soooooo bad they need to think of all the BS to try and convince their clients that they are doing everything possible to improve reception!!!

If this were to be applied to "big dishes" for satellite reception then think of the angle the dish would need to be at - almost horizontal??? I am sure it would still get some signal, but cannot see how installing a dish in the incorrect manner could improve this signal.
