Alicante Airport’s New Terminal To Open on March 24th

Jose Blanco, the Minister of Development, has announced today that the long awaited new terminal at Alicant Airport will open March 23rd 2011, although the operational launch will not happen until the next day.

Alicante El Altet international airport will, with the new terminal, have a a capacity for 20 million passengers per year, up from 12.2 million currently.

The new terminal at El Altet airport will cover 8 floors, topped by 20 spectacular large glass domes. The number of check in desks will increase from 53 to 96, passport control points from 17 to 32 and the number of boarding gates will triple, from 5 to 15.

The overall investment in extension work is around €670 million which is being paid by the central government of Spain and the area will increase sixfold (from 54,800sqm to 333,500sqm).
