EPG's

Hi
Can someone please tell me what an EPG is ? It keeps cropping up so it must be important. They say ignorance is bliss !

An EPG is the Electronic Programme Guide.
Both Sky and Freesat recivers have specially written software to present programme data in a nice and easy form to read, and also allows for you to search for programmes up to 7 days in advance.
Generic recievers are unable to access this special software and so do not have a fully operational PEG - they normally have just Now and Next progrmme information.

Thanks for that info. You mentioned that you were going to get a FTV receiver in for testing at some stage. Could you let us know what the results are once you've appraised it ? Also do you repair/service/upgrade PC's ?

Hi Pavlo,

I am due to be loaned a Humax HD for testing in the next few days or so. Early reports from a memeber on another forum said that he was surprised by its performance and said it was close to that of a Pace 2600 (the best sky receiver for Spain!) however, until i see it for myself i will remain silent. If this is true then we hope that Humax use this tuner in their PVR (personal video recorder (Hard disk)) in the autumn.

Keep an eyes on the news page as I will announce my findings there.

Yes i do PC repairs, servicing and upgrades.

Thanks for the info once again. I will keep my eye on the news page. Once we move down to Javea we will need to know that there is someone to look after the sat & Pc. So thanks for that as well.

I'm just wondering what sort of price range the Humax PVR's will be when they are available.
I notice that the UK price for the Humax HD with no PVR, is around �150. So it must be quite a bit more than that. Generally speaking, are these receivers more expensive in Spain ? I am watching your news area with great interest. Your link to "join freesat" is excellent as well. (years of HF and Sat Comms in the RAF were pretty mundane - this is becoming almost a hobby !)

Hi Pavlo,
no one execpt the top humax execs will know when they will go one sale and for how much - some prices quoted earleier on wre �250. Receivers are generally a bit more expensive than in the UK - but you must appreciate that the supply to spain from manufacturers can be tricky so the prices tend to reflect supply.

Glad you klike the joinfreesat link - i found it quite informative, especially when they got the interview with the freesat exec about the rumours about what is happening in the freesat world.

Thanks once again for your reply. We will have to wait and see how it all pans out, price and availability wise.
I think we should be very pleased to receive UK channels at all !! Especially when we consider the signal levels in Spain.
I think we take a lot for granted.
