Spain's satellite pay-TV operator Sogecable's Digital+ has once again lost subscribers, following its continuous downturn since the beginning of 2008 when it had over 2 million clients. Now the operator has just over 1.8 million subscribers.
The new figures are a drop of 53.411 clients compared to the end of Q3 last year and 189,060 fewer clients than one year ago.
In spite of all this Sogecable had revenues of €1.525 million at the end of last year and a net profit of €90 million.
Some observers attribute Digital+'s subscriber downturn to the arrival of producer Mediapro's pay-DTT channel Gol TV which contains premier soccer matches of the Spanish Soccer League. Gol TV competes directly with Sogecable's soccer pay-TV channel Canal+Liga which has now some 700,000 clients while Gol TV has some more than 1 million subscribers.
D+ operates on both the Astra 19 east and Hispasat 30 West satellites
