Mediapro to launch two more channels on TDT

According to reports, Mediapro plans to launch two more premium channels on TDT in Spain.

These two new channel will complement Gol TV AXN.

So the Mediapro TDT package will compose of four channels, Gol TV, AXN and the two new ones, which we still do not know their names and start date.

It will be expected that the channels will be available on the same card and the same decoders currently used in TDT Premium.

Spanish broadcaster laSexta, owned by Mediapro, will launch its second free-to-air channel and a third pay-TV channel before the end of 2010, according to José Miguel Contreras, the company's CEO.

Contreras told a press conference in Madrid yesterday that the company wants to make its offering “complementary”.

LaSexta's new pay-TV channel - the broadcaster already owns Gol TV and rents capacity to Sony's AXN - will be ready next month. LaSexta’s digital-terrestrial multiplex will be made up of two free-to-air channels and two pay-TV ones.

But laSexta also wants to be active in HDTV. "We want to be the first private channel in having HDTV broadcasts," the CEO declared.

The main problem for HDTV implementation is that only 10% of Spanish TV sets are HDTV ready.

Later this year, La Sexta will start a second free channels on TDT, and also start another pay channel on DTT.
This was confimed today by Jose Miguel Contreras, CEO of La Sexta, in the presentation of the 2010/11 season.

"We want to complement La Sexta, which has a very specific audience." Contreras said

On the third pay channel on TDT, the CEO said he hopes to launch in October. Thus, the La Sexta Group will have two open and two payment channels on TDT in Spain.

High Definition Television (HDTV) is also one of their most desired goals "We want to be the first private channel to have HDTV broadcasts."
