Spanish broadcaster laSexta, owned by Mediapro, will launch its second free-to-air channel and a third pay-TV channel before the end of 2010, according to José Miguel Contreras, the company's CEO.
Contreras told a press conference in Madrid yesterday that the company wants to make its offering “complementary”.
LaSexta's new pay-TV channel - the broadcaster already owns Gol TV and rents capacity to Sony's AXN - will be ready next month. LaSexta’s digital-terrestrial multiplex will be made up of two free-to-air channels and two pay-TV ones.
But laSexta also wants to be active in HDTV. "We want to be the first private channel in having HDTV broadcasts," the CEO declared.
The main problem for HDTV implementation is that only 10% of Spanish TV sets are HDTV ready.
