Loss of TDT in Spain during the summer

It is known as "fading effect" and affects all radio signals, including DVB-T broadcast.

When the heat and it is joined by the humidity which is typical of coastal areas, both analog and digital signals suffer a slowdown and in the first case manifested with snow on the screen, and secondly, the TDT, the signal is reduced.

The Coast of Granada is one of the areas affected by this, and affect thousands of homes, which in many cases have renewed their old TVs for others adapted to this new television technology.

Some TDT installers can not respond to the barrage of calls from users confused over its new TV without a signal. As there is little that can be done by the installers.

The Ministry of Industry has recognized this phenomenon and that it can cause a problem with TDT reception and is attempting to solve the issue with new multiplexes with more frequencies, and / or putting the affected channels on lower frequencies.

Re: Loss of TDT in Spain during the summer

Further to the above post, it appaers that some areas are to have some "emergancy" TDT frequencies activated.

These new frequencies will be at the lower end of the TDT frequency scale, and shoud be less affected by high temperatures. Every day there are reports that channels and frequencies are "breaking up" more often than they did.

In soem areas, "gap filler" tranmitters are being used to help boost siganls in certain areas affected.

In cities such as Malaga, Cadiz, Valencia and Alicante and others have chosen to activate three new Multiplex in a Red MFN (lower frequencies) with the most watched channels (not all).

Take as an example the town of Aguilas. From today there are several neighboring communities have lost signal and it is because initially their antennas pointed toward pincipal Center, Los Overseers, which emits a radiated power of 5W, but it is installed about 11 km from the city. The terrain and the low-power broadcasting to that distance (should issue a minimum of 20 W) causes 50-54 dB are received around the town of Eagle and a 65dB are received from the Centre de Cuevas de Almanzora. Hence the request a new grant to install a Gap-filler of 1W at Falda del Castillo de San Juan de las Aguilas in order to address these shortcomings to more than 17,000 inhabitants. So with temperatures and although both sites are fully synchronized, has found that the signal has been "canceled" saturation of headers
