Hi and Welcome,
The Black box, that I have seen advertised in the roundtownnews newspaper, is a cardsharing box.
It uses the internet connection to conenct to a card sharing netowrk. For a fee, this network sends the codes to the receiver to unscramble the pay channels. In this case the UKs biggest pay tv provider.
No internet = no channels.
Reception of channels still relies on the size of your dish - codes only come from the internt, not the channels themselves.
At peak times, oversubscribed networks can stall, as the amount of people trying to access the network will slow the network down.
Card sharing is illegal - in any country. If you want to, you take the risk. You are not paying the actual broadcasters for the service. You could be paying ANYONE for the service, so your payment may be funding other criminal activites. Broadcasters actively seek to close these networks own due to them being illegal.
Its interesting to see that the man advertising it in the roundtownnews has his adderss and land line phone numbers on his website.
Many forums do not allow ANY discussion about cardsharing, due to its illegal activities. Some have been closed down for providing tools and access to networks. Networks in Greece and Portugal have been closed after raids by police.
With all that, it may be becoming popular, but it is also a risk, which are not mentioned by the resellers, who are just trying to make a quick profit (they get that on the boxes, not on the subscriptions). You will not find any official satellite installers openly advertising or selling these systems - I do not sell these systems due to the risk. Anyone that advertised these systems is taking a huge risk of fines and imprisonment.
300euros for the box is way too much - shoud be no more than 150euros.
But, I shall keep this thread open for a few days, should you wish to respond, and then it will be closed.
