IPTV in Spain / Internet TV in Spain

What is IPTV?

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol TV. This is basically television distributed over the Internet.

IPTV uses the Internet and broadband access networks, instead of being delivered to homes by the traditional radio frequency broadcast, satellite signal, and cable television formats.

IPTV services may be classified into three main groups:
live television;
time-shifted programming: catch-up TV (replays a TV show that was broadcast hours or days ago), start-over TV (replays the current TV show from its beginning);
video on demand (VOD): browse a catalogue of videos, not related to TV programming.

Because IPTV uses standard internet networking, it promises lower costs for operators and lower prices for users.

It is also possible to use set-top-boxes connected to your broadband / ADSL Internet routers, and so video can be streamed to household TV.

Video on Demand

IPTV technology is bringing Video-on-demand (VoD) to television which permits a customer to browse an online program or film catalogue, to watch trailers and to then select a selected recording. The playout of the selected item starts nearly instantaneously on the customers TV or PC. This type of service is currently available on many cable TV networks.
