It has been held at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey.
Live BDO Darts on BBC / BT Sport
The BDO World Darts Championship has been broadcast in the UK by BBC Sport every year since its inception.
From the 2012 event, the BBC reduced their coverage and no longer have exclusive coverage in the UK, sharing coverage with ESPN.
Since the 2015 tournament, BBC coverage has been shared with BT Sport.
The BBC’s latest 3-year deal to show the Lakeside World Championships expired with the 2016 tournament. It is thought that the BBC will not renew this contract after 38 years of broadcasting the event, and live coverage will exclusive on BT Sport. ITV could offer competition when the rights come up for grabs, though BT Sport have the upper hand after agreeing a deal last year allowing them to share BDO coverage with the BBC.
The BBC has not renewed its BDO Darts coverage past the 2016 Championship. Instead they will broadcast the new PDC Champions League of Darts.
Live BDO Darts on Channel 4 / BT Sport
Instead from the 2017 Championship, BT Sport and Channel 4 will share live coverage. From January 2017 Channel 4 will broadcast live from Lakeside during the afternoon sessions of the men’s and women’s championships in addition to one of the semi-finals and the Women’s Final. All evening sessions will be aired on BT Sport alongside one of the semi-finals. The Men’s Final will air on both Channel 4 and BT.
