Spain’s National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) has opened disciplinary proceedings against Mediaset for breaching the Law on Audiovisual Communication.

In particular, the broadcaster’s channels Cuatro and Telecinco stand accused of violating the maximum permitted airtime of 12 minutes per hour for advertising and teleshopping.

As this is considered a minor offence, Mediaset faces the prospect of a fine of up to €100,000 for each violation.

Atresmedia and its TV channel La Sexta are also accused of exceeding the transmission time allowed for advertsing and teleshopping messages.
