BT Sport will have a free-to-air version of BT Sport from the next football season, it has been confirmed.

When BT Sports announced they had secured the live broadcast rights for the UK for Champions League and Europa League, they announced that they would be making some matches available free to air.

There had been speculation as to whether BT would licence matches to third-party broadcasters, like ITV, who currently show the free-to-air matches, with Sky broadcasting the rest to Sky Sports subscribers.

Welsh public-service television channel S4C has acquired rights for highlights coverage of the Spanish Liga, the top division of football in the country.

S4C will broadcast weekly highlights of the Liga alongside highlights of the Welsh top-tier Premier League as part of the Sgorio programme on Mondays at 18.05pm.

Liga highlights will also feature in the Welsh-language channel’s new Sunday sports programme, Clwb.

S4C’s director of content, Dafydd Rhys, said that there is “huge interest” in the Liga due to Wales national team star Gareth Bale entering his second season at Real Madrid.
