Jesus Pobre Costa Blanca, Spain
Jesus Pobre lies within the administrative boundaries of Denia, in the verdant valley to the South of Montgó. It is close to the towns of Denia, Pedreguer, Gata and Javea and yet is quiet and unspoilt. Jesus Probre is a traditional Spanish village with modern facilities, and just minutes away from La Sella Golf Course and Spa. It is surrounded by orange groves and lovely views to the valley. Javea and Denia are approximately 10 mins away by car.
Jesus Pobre, with about 600 inhabitants, conserves the characteristics of a small village, with its friendliness and tranquility yet it is less than 10 kms from the beaches and the bustling life of Denia. The northern landscape is dominated by Montgo Mountain (a National Park). On its summit (753 metres) is a cross dedicated to Jesus Pobre.
The southern aspect is of a quiet valley spreading towards the sea, with orange trees, almonds and olives. Farmhouses, often beautifully restored, dot the landscape. Drystone walls remind one of the Pennines. The three stone windmills are midway between Gata and Jesus Pobre. They were constructed in the XVIII century to grind the cereals grown in the area.
The festive calendar is very diverse, beginning in January with the arrival of the Three Kings, the celebration of Santo Antonio Abbot, the wine festival and the main festival lasting 10 days (!) with a varied program of street parties, bull running and live music. 9 of October (the day of the Valencians) has a wonderful street party and music in the evening.
Amenities in the village are plentiful, chemist, bakers, tobacconist, medical centre, historical sites, sports centre, supermarket and school. The village is self-sufficient with plenty of bars and restaurants.
Denia and Javea are just a few minutes’ drive away with the magnificent beaches and both towns have historical sights to see and different things to do.
