Can I watch Freeview in Spain?

You cannot receive UK Freeview in Spain.

Freeview is the brand name of a UK Digital TV service ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE UK.

Freeview is transmitted in the UK only by the local TV transmitters, and is only receivable via a TV aerial.

Freeview or Freesat

Freeview is not the same as Freesat – a common misconception – even by some satellite installers here in Spain who do not know the difference!!! Although the channel line up is similar on both the Freeview and Freesat TV systems.

Freesat is transmitted from satellites and only receivable via a satellite dish.

And where are you cannot receive Freeview in Spain, you can receive Freesat in Spain.

Note that there are channels that are available subscription free on Freeview, but you have to pay for on satellite (Sky) – like Dave.

TDT – Spains “Freeview” service

The Spanish version of Freeview is TDT – television digital terrestrial.

It provides around 30 Digital Spanish TV channels depending on your location and TDT transmitter coverage.

There are only Spanish TV channels, like TVE Teledeporte, Disney, Discovery available on TDT in Spain.

As these channels are transmitted in Spain, these channels are in Spanish. However in many cases on programmes and movies imported from the UK and USA, you can change the language of the programme from the dubbed Spanish to English, usually just by pressing a button on the remote control.

Connecting a UK Freeview set top box to a TV aerial in Spain and you will not get the UK TV channels – you will only get the Spanish TV channels!
