Sky to launch 3D TV channel ‘next year’
Sky has announced plans to launch a 3D TV channel next year to build on the growing consumer demand for its Sky+ high definition service.
As the “next step in the Sky+ HD journey”, the company plans to offer the UK’s first ever 3D channel in 2010, which will carry movies, entertainment and sport.
This channel will be “broadcast across Sky’s existing HD infrastructure” meaning that it will be accessible to all owners of existing Sky+ HD set top boxes as long as they have a 3D ready TV set, with the first models likely to go on sale next year.
