Smithsonian Channel set to close on satellite and Freeview
The Smithsonian Channel will cease broadcasting in the UK and Ireland in January 2023.
The Smithsonian Channel, a popular free to air documentary channel, launched in 2019.
Smithsonian Channel is scheduled to broadcast its final programme, Earth Under Water, at
5am on Friday 6th January 2023, before closing.
Some TV platforms are expected to cut distribution before the final programme airs, due to the way different platforms implement changes.
The Smithsonian Channel is currently available on:
Freeview Channel 57 (it moved there from 56 back in January)
Freesat Channel 175
Sky Channel 171
The channel’s last day on the air will be January 5, 2023.
However, many of the channel’s programmes will live on via Paramount+, the streaming service that launched in the UK back in June, and on My5.
