Three HD channels to close on Sky
Three HD channels are set to close on Sky satellite in the next few weeks.
For two of these HD channels, they will not close completely, as the SD versions will replace them.
UKTV, the commercial broadcaster owned by BBC Studios, is set to discontinue the HD versions of its U&W and U&Yesterday channels on satellite.
Starting in April, viewers using Sky Q or Sky+HD will only receive these channels in standard definition
However these channels will still be available in HD if they switch to Sky’s streaming TV platform (Sky Glass or Sky Stream).
The U&W HD channel, currently available on channel 132, will switch to the standard definition version on Tuesday. Similarly, U&Yesterday HD, currently on channel 155, will also be replaced by its SD counterpart on Tuesday. Other UKTV channels in HD, such as U&Gold, will not be impacted.
It is unknown if the content will continue to be available on SkyQ and Sky+HD boxes using the “on demand” service.
Additionally, on Wednesday, April 2nd, Sky History 2 HD will be discontinued. From then on, only the SD version of the channel will be available via satellite. The HD version of Sky History 2 will be exclusively offered on Sky’s streaming TV platform.
Sky History 2 HD, currently on channel 163 (168 in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland), will be replaced by the SD version on Wednesday. However, the main Sky History channel will remain available in HD on Sky satellite.
Also, the SD copy of Sky Sports Racing will be closing. Sky Sports Racing becomes HD only on Sky channel 415
