TLC gets a makeover – and could arrive on Freesat
In a bold move for UK & Ireland viewers, Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland has announced that TLC will be relaunched as a free-to-air (FTA) entertainment channel from January 2026.
The “new-look TLC” is set to blend a strong mixture of scripted and unscripted programming: big scripted shows such as The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, its upcoming spin-off Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and Mike & Molly are all lined up.
On the non-scripted side, viewers can expect a revamped Mock the Week and a brand-new comedy series Zero Stars, fronted by Roisin Conaty and Sara Pascoe. The refreshed lineup aims to mix familiar favourites with original British humour and relatable storytelling, designed to appeal to a broad audience tuning in without subscription costs.
The decision reflects Warner Bros. Discovery’s commitment to maintaining a strong free-to-air offering. The updated TLC will sit alongside other popular FTA channels under the company’s umbrella, such as Really, Quest, Food Network and DMAX.
Will Freesat get the new-look TLC?
While the announcement confirmed TLC’s shift to a free-to-air model, the exact platforms haven’t yet been revealed. However, given that Freesat remains one of the UK’s most important FTA satellite services, it’s highly plausible that the new TLC will find its way there. Warner Bros. Discovery’s “free for all” positioning suggests a desire for maximum reach, and Freesat’s nationwide accessibility would make it an obvious choice.
Still, its arrival on Freesat will depend on technical capacity, transponder space and platform negotiations, perhaps one of their other channels likE HGTV will close to make space for the new TLC channel on Freesat.
