If BBC iPlayer isn’t working on your Amazon Fire TV Stick while you’re using a VPN, this video shows a simple and effective fix that often resolves playback and location errors in just a few minutes.

Problems like “this content is not available in your location” or endless loading screens are common when using a VPN, but in many cases they can be solved without changing devices or reinstalling apps.

This video builds on the previous two videos in this series. In the first, I explained what a VPN is and how it works in simple terms, and in the second, I showed how to install and use NordVPN on a Fire TV Stick with a UK server. Here, I focus on troubleshooting — what to do when everything should be working, but BBC iPlayer still refuses to play.

BBC iPlayer is restricted outside the UK because of broadcasting and licensing agreements. The BBC only has the rights to stream most of its programmes within the UK, so it actively checks your location based on your internet connection. When it detects that you’re outside the UK, or suspects a VPN connection, it can block playback or display an error message. In this example, an error prevents me from watching BBC iPlayer content until I apply a quick fix on the Fire TV device.

I demonstrate a simple trick on the Fire TV Stick that refreshes the connection and helps BBC iPlayer correctly recognise the UK VPN location. This fix can often restore access without needing advanced technical changes or complicated settings.
