This morning, 16th September 2025, Freesat 4K TV boxes, both the recording and non recording versions, started to receive the latest software update.

The Freesat 4K TV boxes should automatically download and update the software.

However, some users have reported their Freesat 4K TV boxes have frozen after the update.

The solution being the good old “reboot”… ie disconnect from the power for 15 seconds, and then reapply the power.

Freesat say that :

A new software update, v1.7.0, is now available and will be automatically installed on Freesat 4K TV boxes.

This update includes several fixes and enhancements designed to improve your viewing experience.

Not much to go on, but from the looks of it I can see a slight difference in the font / graphics of the user interface.

Freesat have provided a little bit more information about the update

We’ve made a few improvements to enhance your viewing experience:

• The TV Guide now loads faster than ever.
• You’ll notice a refreshed start-up message when switching on from standby.
• Plus, we’ve included some minor fixes, tweaks, and general maintenance.

 

The previous software update, v1.6.2, was released on the 2nd December 2024 and “addresses a known issue with power management and includes several minor fixes”
