How to get Now TV in Spain

 

Now TV is an internet television service from Sky TV. It was launched on 17 July 2012.

Now TV from Sky is available to watch with a Now TV branded box that was launched in July 2013. This Now TV box is similar to some Smart TV boxes.

Now TV is also available using a PC or Mac, or as an app on iOS devices, selected Android phones, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Now TV uses a Now TV-branded Roku streaming box.

The Now TV box allows users to stream Now TV content to their TV.

The Now TV box also allows users to view content from BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Spotify and Sky News.

 

 

Catch up services on Sky Now TV in Spain

Catch up on shows you missed with BBC iPlayer, Demand 5 and 4OD.

You do not need any subscription to use the Catch Up services from BBC ITV Channel 4 or Five, but you may still have to register bank details whilst setting up the Now TV account.

Sky’s Now TV uses the internet to deliver content to the Now TV box.

But content is “geo blocked”. Meaning, your IP address is checked to make sure that you are in the UK.

To get around this, you will need a smart DNS running on a separate router, to hide the fact you are using NOW TV in Spain, and not in the UK.

 

Update – new EU rules introduced in April 2018, now mean you can watch paid Now TV content in Spain without  the need for a Smart DNS service for 35 days. After 35 days you will get an email asking you to use the box again with a UK IP address, otherwise you will no longer be able to use the box in Spain. (some “installers” in Spain are selling these UK NOW TV boxes to their clients, but not telling them this crucial piece of information). Note that this new rule is for the PAID content on a NOW TV box. As BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and 5 OD are subscription free, they are not included in this new rule and will continue to be “geo blocked”. It is also thought that Brexit will remove this rule for UK broadcasters, and so will no longer apply after March 2019

 

 

Accessing the On Demand and Catch Up TV in Spain – Use a UK TV Router for UK TV 

The UK TV Catch-up iPlayer services are indented for use in the UK only. Access to On Demand and Catch Up TV in Spain from other countries will be blocked. This blocking is “policed” by checking your internet IP address. Spanish IP addresses will be blocked from connecting to these On Demand and Catch Up TV in Spain.

The only way to connect to these UK TV Catch-up iPlayer services on a Sky Digibox or Freesat set top box in Spain, is by using aSMART DNS service that allows you to connect to the internet using a UK internet server.

Now TV Spain – Spanish Version

In August 2016, it was announced that Sky would be launching their NOW TV service in Spain.

There will be limited content, about 12 channels, and mainly “Fox” content.

But with regards to broadcast contracts, not all the content on offer in the UK on NOW TV will be available to Now TV customers in Spain. So do not expect to get the same programmes on this Spanish version that are on the UK version.
