Sky Viewing Cards – This is the wrong card for this set top box

The “Wrong card for this set top box” is a Sky  digibox error message.

There are two reasons why you may receive this  “Wrong card for this set top box” error message.

“This is the wrong card for this set top box” message on Sky Sports and Sky Movie channels.

The Wrong card for this set top box” error message will be displayed if you are using your Sky Subscription card in another sky box, and trying to watch the Sky premium channels, like Sky Sports,  Sky Movies or Sky HD channels.

To watch these premium Sky channels, your must use your Sky card in the correct Sky digibox.

The Sky Sports,  Sky Movies or Sky HD channels are only available if your Sky card is used in the correct paired Sky digibox.

If your Sky viewing card is not paired to the Sky digibox, then you will need to contact Sky (or your Sky TV in Spain installer), who will arrange for the card to be paired to the digibox.

“This is the wrong card for this set top box” message on all Sky channels.

The “Wrong card for this set top box” error message on ALL Sky pay channel, basically means that the  white sky viewing card is in hibernation after not getting the “keep alive” signal from the satellite.

This “keep alive” signal is being sent to the Sky card pretty much constantly.

Should the Sky card not receive this “keep alive” signal for a few weeks (for example if the Sky card is removed from the Sky receiver, or there has been a power cut and the Sky box has not reset itself), then the Sky card can go into hibernation.

Where as the old yellow house Sky cards displayed the “To subscribe to this channel call ….” on all scrambled channels if they were hibernating, the new white sky viewing cards display “This is the wrong card for this set top box”, irrespective of whether the card be in the right box or not.

As before, leaving in a sky box that is turned on and receiving channels should wake them up over the next 24 hours. It can, however, sometimes take longer.
