Cocentaina, Alicante. Spain
Cocentaina (also known as Concentaina) is a town located in the Comtat area, in the province of Alicante in the the Comunidad Valenciana, Spain.
It can be found close to Alcoy, midway between Valencia and Alicante on the the A7 highway, and the N430 national road.
It has, according to the 2002 census, a total population of 10,567 inhabitants and a population density of 200.13 inhabitants per km².
The city is located between the mountainous Sierra de Mariola national park and the Serpis river. The economy of Cocentaina is chiefly based on the textile industry.
The most important monuments are the convents of the orders of Saint Clare (from the 16th century) and Saint Francis, the Catholic church of la Asunción and the Palace of the Counts of Cocentaina. There is also a recently restored 4th-century medieval castle, which stands on a rocky mound of 765 m. The Moros y Cristianos festival and the Fira de Tots Sants (“All Saints Fair”) attracts many tourists each year.
