New EPG for Samsung Sky+ HD boxes
Sky will next week start contacting Sky+ HD customers with set top boxes manufactured by Samsung about them getting the new electronic programme guide.
A Sky spokesperson said that the firm is now ready to start contacting 30,000 customers with Samsung boxes about them upgrading to the new EPG.
“The EPG migration is still on track and we’re delighted with the feedback we’ve received from those with the new Sky+ HD guide, which now includes those customers with Thomson and Pace boxes,” he said.
“We thank all other customers for their patience while we roll out with controlled phasing to all other boxes. We will continue to contact customers with more information prior to migrating them to the new guide, including 30,000 customers with Samsung boxes just next week.”
The new EPG started rolling out to Sky+ HD boxes on March 10, with receivers manufactured by Thomson first to get the update, followed by customers with boxes manufactured by Pace in April. Samsung users will get the new EPG in “weeks”.
About Sky+HD Boxes
Sky+ HD boxes revolutionized home entertainment in the UK by offering viewers a combination of high-definition (HD) television and the convenience of digital recording. Launched by Sky in 2006, these set-top boxes provided access to a vast array of HD channels, delivering sharper picture quality, vibrant colors, and improved sound, enhancing the viewing experience. This technology was especially appealing for watching sports, movies, and nature documentaries, where the enhanced detail made a significant impact.
One of the standout features of Sky+ HD boxes was the ability to pause, rewind, and record live TV. Viewers could easily record entire series with the Series Link function, ensuring they never missed an episode. The boxes typically came with a substantial amount of storage space, allowing users to save hours of HD content. Sky+ HD also supported on-demand services, enabling access to a wide range of movies, shows, and other content at any time.
The introduction of Sky+ HD boxes marked a significant shift in how people consumed television, offering greater control and flexibility. Though later surpassed by Sky Q, Sky+ HD remains a milestone in the evolution of digital TV, fondly remembered by many for its role in the HD revolution.
