BBC Region HD change over – when does your region go HD
The BBC has today confirmed the full timetable for the transfer of all regions to HD on Sky and Freesat.
The transfer of BBC regions from SD to HD will complete in late February.
As per previous posts, the changes being made involve the launch of regional BBC One in HD on Sky and Freesat channel 101. It also means the closure of all SD BBC One regions. If you’re using a standard definition (SD) receiver , then you will lose access to your local news on BBC One on the relevant date on the table below. The SD boxes will switch to BBC One Nightlight, a UK-wide version of BBC One, no regional news or programming, but with information about SD-switch-off in lieu of regional programmes.
IT is thought that the SD Nightlight version of BBC One SD will not be made available on some HD boxes. So users will need to ensure that their satellite dish is large enough and correctly aligned to receive the BBC HD channels. In my service area a 125x135cm dish is the recommended size of dish to receive these channels in all but the heaviest of rains.
Use the table below to see when the BBC will be launching the high definition (HD) version of your local BBC One channel, and closing the SD version of your local BBC One channel. Depending on whether you use a Freesat or Sky device, the dates are slightly different.
