However, modern Astra satellites increasingly use tightly focused UK spot beams with reduced overspill outside Britain.

This means many viewers in Spain are now operating very close to the minimum reception threshold for certain UK channels.

When Manhattan Plaza Freesat boxes automatically assign one of the weaker Channel 4 HD regional feeds to channel 104, the signal may simply be too weak for reliable reception.

This can lead to:

• “No Signal” messages
• Black screens
• Pixelation
• Intermittent reception
• Sound breakup

Meanwhile, standard definition Channel 4 services often continue working normally because they may still use easier-to-receive European beams.

Freesat Regional Settings and Postcodes

Manhattan Plaza receivers use Freesat postcode information to decide which regional channels should appear in the channel list.

Following the Channel 4 HD changes, many boxes began automatically selecting regional HD versions that are carried on weaker spot beam transponders.

Dish Size Is Now More Important

• Southern Spain often requires much bigger dishes for stable HD reception

Many older dish installations that worked perfectly several years ago may now struggle with newer UK spot beam services.

During bad weather or periods of high humidity, weaker Channel 4 HD signals may disappear entirely.

Possible Solutions

• Retuning the receiver
