The last few remaining standard definition (SD) BBC channels have been today removed from Freesat HD channel lists.
From today, there are no SD versions of BBC Three, BBC Four, BBC Scotland, BBC News, CBBC and CBeebies available on Freesat HD channel lists.
This is due to the BBCs move to having all its channels available in HD only, a process that was announced about a year ago in October 2022, and the migration from SD to HD was done in January to March 2023.
Sky’s satellite electronic programme guide continues to list both HD and SD versions of the BBC’s channels, with the SD versions in the “SD HD swap section, channel 800s)
Freesat users in Spain, who watched the SD versions of these channels as they were unable to receive the HD versions, will need to upgrade their satellite dish to a larger one if they want to watch BBC HD channels on Freesat HD boxes. If watching the BBC SD channels on “non freesat hd” receivers, then the SD channels will be closed in early January 2024, and again will need to upgrade their satellite dish system should you wish to continue watching BBC channels via satellite.
