The end of BBC SD channels on satellite
Today (Monday 25 Mar 2024), the BBC SD (standard definition) channels were removed from Freesat SD boxes channel list.
Tomorrow, they will be removed from the channel lists on Sky SD digiboxes and Sky+ SD digiboxes
Not that this make much change, as since early January 2024, the BBC channels in SD have not been showing any content, but a information screen, informing viewers that the SD channels have been closed, and you need HD equipment to continue to watch BBC channels.
The following BBC SD channel will be removed from satellite frequency 10818 V in the next few days, once they have been delisted from Freesat SD and Sky SD channel lists.
101 BBC ONE
102 BBC TWO
106/110 BBC Scotland
107 BBC THREE
108 BBC FOUR
109 BBC ALBA
200 BBC NEWS
201 BBC Parliament
601 CBeebies
607 CBBC
971 BBC RB 1
If you are using and old Freesat SD set top box, or an old Sky SD or Sky+ digibox, then you will already have lost these BBC channels. To continue watching BBC channels in HD, you need to upgrade to a Freesat HD or Sky HD receiver.
If you are using a TV with a built in satellite receiver, or a “generic” free to air satellite receiver, then you may still have these BBC SD channel listed in your TV channel list, but they will show no content. To continue to watch BBC channels in HD; then you will need to perform a channel scan on your TV or receiver to update the channel lists for the BBC HD channels.
Of course, this does assume that your satellite dish is large enough and aligned correctly for your location.
In my service area, Valencia to Calpe areas of the Costa Azahar and Costa Blanca, a 125x135cm satellite dish will receive ALL the UK TV channels including the BBC HD and ITV HD and C4HD channels in all but the heaviest of rains.
The 125x135cm satellite dish has been the recommended size satellite dish for my service area since 2012. The slightly smaller 110x120cm satellite works right on its limit for reception.
Should you have a satellite dish of smaller dimensions, then you will need to upgrade to the recommended size satellite dish for continue viewing of UK TV via satellite.

Why choose to watch UK TV by satellite and not via pirate internet TV systems?
Satellite TV is still the most popular and reliable way to watch UK TV in Spain.
Satellite TV is live and direct from the broadcasters, in full 1080 HD with Dolby Digital Audio channels.
Satellite TV will not be closed down by the police and authorities for being illegal (many illegal IPTV service use satellite signals as their source!)
