Netflix fans with certain types of TV will find that the app for the popular streaming service will no longer work on their devices.

Despite being one of the largest streaming platforms, Netflix will no longer be available on up to 60 different models of smart TVs in just a few weeks.

If you’re concerned that your brand-new TV might become useless for streaming your favorite shows, there’s no need to worry. The affected models are all around ten years old, so if you’re using an older TV, it might be time for an upgrade.

Most smart TVs can support Netflix, as it is one of the most popular streaming services on the market. However, 16 different models of Sony televisions and two generations of Apple TVs will no longer support the Netflix app. Additionally, another 42 Sony TV models will also be affected.

Which TV models will be impacted by this change?

Sony says 42 of its Bravia-branded tellies are going to lose the ability to stream Netflix over what it calls ‘technical limitations’. Each one of these sets was released in 2014, so you’ve probably got used to this way of streaming for the best part of a decade.

If your Sony TV is listed among the affected models, Netflix will no longer work on it, even if you maintain a subscription.

For most of these models, the Netflix app will stop working on July 24, 2024, while the final 16 Sony models will lose access on July 23. Furthermore, if you have a second or third-generation Apple TV, Netflix will cease functioning on July 31.
