UKTV is a major British television network and is wholly owned by BBC Studios. Originally launched in 1992 to showcase BBC archive programming, UKTV has evolved into one of the UK’s most successful multi-channel broadcasters, operating a mix of free-to-air and pay television services.
Its best-known channel, Dave, has become one of the most watched digital TV channels in the UK since its launch in 2007. Dave is closely associated with comedy and entertainment, featuring popular programmes such as Taskmaster, Top Gear repeats and panel shows, alongside original commissions that helped redefine digital channel success. Another key brand, W (formerly Watch), focuses on drama, lifestyle and entertainment, appealing to a broad adult audience.
UKTV’s wider portfolio includes Gold, Drama, Yesterday and Eden, covering genres such as classic comedy, scripted drama, history and factual programming. The broadcaster also operates UKTV Play, its on-demand streaming service, which allows viewers to watch content online and reinforces UKTV’s digital-first strategy.
Together, UKTV’s channels play a significant role in the UK television landscape, combining strong branding, recognisable programmes and broad audience appeal across broadcast and streaming platforms.
